HW Sports Campus : Noise

Troubling Element Number Two

Harvard Westlake’s Application for Their Sports Campus

This is the second in our ongoing weekly series of News & Notes that explores key parts of the Harvard Westlake Sports Campus Application at the Weddington Golf & Tennis location.

Letter October 30, 2017, Richard B. Commons, Harvard Westlake President and Head of School:”…we value the tranquility of the Weddington property and know that its neighbors do as well….”

Open Letter October 30, 2017, Councilmember Paul Krekorian:” The school has also acknowledged that it will respect the community’s desires by maintaining the tranquility of the property…”

Noise from sports activities and spectators will far exceed the current level that is presently generated, such as:

  1. Two athletic fields, 743 spectator seats.

  2. Olympic swimming pool, 348 spectator seats.

  3. Multipurpose gym, 1,026 spectator seats.

The proposed sound attenuation measures, i.e. mitigation measures, will not eliminate noise. It is an attempt to address noise that will destroy the tranquility of the property.

* The above is based on the initial Application filed with the Department of City Planning by Harvard Westlake. We will keep you updated as the process moves forward.

We welcome your comments and encourage you to forward this email to your friends and neighbors. If you have any questions, please email us at and we will respond to you.

Volunteers Welcomed!

The Harvard Westlake Sports Campus has the potential of disrupting the residential area around it and impacting already notorious traffic patterns. Save LA River and the Studio City Residents Association are seeking the best result possible and, we are looking for volunteers for specific areas:

  1. Use your contact list to notify your neighbors

  2. Help put out lawn signs / distribute flyers
